For a dealership one thing matters at new registration: the car must be road-legal at handover without anyone driving to the registration office. This is how it works digitally.
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

What do you need for an online new registration?
- Registration certificate part II (vehicle title, Fahrzeugbrief) with a hidden security code – issued after 1 January 2018.
- Valid electronic insurance confirmation (eVB number) in the name of the future keeper.
- Bank details (IBAN) and SEPA mandate of the keeper for collecting vehicle tax.
- Power of attorney from the keeper if the dealership files the application.
- Number plate: next free, reserved or personalised plate.
- A printer for the temporary registration proof.
How does the online new registration work?
The official i-Kfz procedure in short:
- Uncover the security code on the registration certificate part II.
- Enter the vehicle identification number, security code, eVB number and the keeper's bank details; choose the number plate.
- The application data is validated automatically and the fee is paid electronically.
- The application is checked in real time – including outstanding tax and fees.
- The registration notice and the temporary registration proof are available online immediately and must be retrieved within 30 minutes.
- Print the proof and place it visibly in the vehicle – the car may be driven for 10 days.
- Registration certificates part I and II and the stickers arrive by post. The stickers must be on the plates within 10 days at the latest.
With Zevra the same procedure runs from your dealer portal: you enter the data, the keeper grants the power of attorney with a qualified electronic signature (QES) – no activated online ID card needed – and Zevra files the application digitally with the competent authority. The decision still rests with the registration authority.
New registration for customers in other registration districts
The competent authority is the one at the keeper's residence or registered office – not the dealership's location. Digitally this makes no difference: one procedure, one price, nationwide. The vehicle receives the district code of the keeper's district.
Typical pitfalls at new registration
- Security code misread (l/I, O/0): read it in good light and double-check.
- eVB number issued to a person or company other than the keeper.
- Registration certificate part II issued before 1 January 2018 – then only in person.
- Temporary registration proof not retrieved within 30 minutes – then no immediate use is possible.
- Keeper with outstanding vehicle tax: the check runs automatically in the procedure.
