Anyone typing vehicle data into a dealer portal reads it from the registration certificate. The codes come from Annex I of Directive 1999/37/EC, the rules on the document from the Vehicle Registration Ordinance.
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

Which codes must registration certificate part I contain?
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A | registration number (plate) |
| B | date of first registration of the vehicle |
| C.1 | holder of the registration certificate: name, first name, address |
| D.1 to D.3 | make, type with variant and version, commercial description |
| E | vehicle identification number |
| F.1 | technically permissible maximum laden mass, except for motorcycles |
| G | mass of the vehicle in service with bodywork |
| H | period of validity, if not unlimited |
| I | date of the registration to which the certificate refers |
| K | type-approval number, if available |
| P.1 to P.3 | capacity in cm³, rated power in kW, type of fuel or power source |
| Q | power/weight ratio in kW/kg, motorcycles only |
| S.1 and S.2 | seats including the driver's seat, standing places |
Which entries are optional?
- J: vehicle category
- L and M: number of axles and wheelbase in mm
- O.1 and O.2: technically permissible towable mass, braked and unbraked, in kg
- R: colour of the vehicle
- T: maximum speed
- F.2: maximum permissible laden mass in the Member State of registration
Where is the vehicle identification number?
Under code E. It is the entry with which a digital registration case finds the vehicle unambiguously – together with the plate under A.
What is the difference between B and I?
B gives the date of the vehicle's first registration. I gives the date of the registration to which the present certificate refers – after a change of keeper the two dates therefore differ.
Who is listed under C.1?
The holder of the registration certificate with name or business name, first name and address. Under C.4 it can be noted whether this holder is the vehicle owner, is not, or is not identified as owner by the certificate.
Where is the security code?
Registration certificate part I must carry a security code, concealed by a marking with the words “Nur für internetbasierte Zulassungsverfahren freilegen. Dokument nur unbeschädigt gültig.” The marking sits in the left third of the back, in the lower half on the right, above the authority's name and signature.
The document is 210 mm wide and 105 mm high and folds twice.
What does this mean for the dealership?
Read the plate (A), the vehicle identification number (E) and the first registration (B) directly from the document before you create the case in the Zevra dealer portal. Uncover the security code only when the case really starts.
With Zevra, registration costs from €10, deregistration from €2 per case, net and plus official fees.
