Purchases, lease returns, export, scrapping: in the trade, deregistration happens every day. Digitally it takes minutes – and nobody has to carry plates to the authority.
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

What do you need for an online deregistration?
- Registration certificate part I (Fahrzeugschein) with security code – issued after 1 January 2015.
- Both number plates with stickers and hidden security codes.
- Bank details for the fee.
- No identification of the keeper is required – that is what makes deregistration so fast in the trade.
How does online deregistration work?
- Enter the vehicle's number plate.
- Uncover the security code of the registration certificate part I – and keep the document.
- Peel off the cover of the stickers on the plates. Caution: from this moment the plate is invalid and the vehicle must not be driven.
- Enter the uncovered codes; if needed, reserve the plate for a later re-registration in the same district.
- Automatic check, pay the fee electronically, confirm the application.
- Confirmation of deregistration is available online immediately; the authority also informs the keeper by post.
With Zevra the same procedure runs from your dealer portal: you enter the data, the keeper grants the power of attorney with a qualified electronic signature (QES) – no activated online ID card needed – and Zevra files the application digitally with the competent authority. The decision still rests with the registration authority.
Deregistration with export or scrapping
The application states whether the vehicle goes abroad, is recycled or is simply taken out of service. At Zevra you select this directly in the case (export, scrapping or no statement).
The most common rejection reason: the vehicle is already deregistered
From practice: if a vehicle is deregistered that already has the status “out of service” in the central vehicle register, the authority rejects the application with exactly this reason. Check before applying – especially for second-hand purchases – whether the previous owner has already deregistered the vehicle.
- Other causes: damaged code on the sticker or registration certificate part I (document invalid – can only be resolved with the authority).
- Registration certificate part I issued before 1 January 2015.
- Code misread – similar characters mixed up.
Keep the cancelled registration certificate part I
After deregistration the registration certificate part I is cancelled – but its security code is mandatory for a later re-registration. In the trade it therefore belongs in the vehicle file.
What does deregistration cost at Zevra?
