In the used-car trade there is often a vehicle in the yard whose general inspection has expired. All details come from the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) and the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO).
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

How is the HU proven in the online procedure?
- by retrieving the expiry of the deadline from the Central Vehicle Register
- or by verifying the check digit of the report on the last general inspection
For the check digit, the date of the last general inspection, month and year of the next deadline and the test body are also entered.
For which case is the HU needed?
| Case | HU proof |
|---|---|
| First registration of a new vehicle | entering the deadline not required |
| Transfer | required |
| Re-registration | required |
| Deregistration | not required |
How does the vehicle get to the test centre without registration?
Drives to carry out a general inspection may be made within the registration district and an adjacent district with unstamped plates. Condition: the registration authority has assigned a plate in advance or a reservation exists, and the drive is covered by motor liability insurance.
With short-term plates, without a valid general inspection only drives to a test centre in the own or an adjacent district and back are allowed.
When is the next HU due?
- passenger cars: first after 36 months, then every 24 months
- motorcycles: every 24 months
- trailers over 0.75 t up to 3.5 t: every 24 months
What does this mean for the dealership?
Test centre first, then register digitally: without a valid general inspection the procedure rejects transfer and re-registration.
With Zevra, registration costs from €10, deregistration from €2 per case, net. Official fees are passed on 1:1.
