When does the Federal Motor Transport Authority notify the previous authority?
If a vehicle is allocated a new number plate or an export plate, it may previously have carried a plate from another registration district. The Federal Motor Transport Authority then informs the registration authority previously responsible.
The same applies if the plate of the other district is kept in use at another registration authority.
Which data are transmitted?
| Item | Case |
|---|---|
| Vehicle identification number | in every case |
| Vehicle class and make | in every case |
| Number of the registration certificate part II | in every case |
| Previous and new number plate with date of allocation | when a new number plate is allocated |
| Number plate and date of continued use | when the previous number plate is kept |
The ordinance names 5 basic items; depending on the case the plate details are added.
What applies to a deregistration in another district?
If a registration authority that is not responsible for allocating the plate deregisters a vehicle, the Federal Motor Transport Authority transmits the deregistration note to the competent authority.
What does the Federal Motor Transport Authority report on theft and duplicates?
- theft or other loss of vehicles, number plates and registration certificates part II,
- the recovery of these vehicles, plates and certificates,
- the report of a vehicle whose vehicle identification number, certificate number or plate is already stored for another vehicle in traffic.
In the last case the registration authority that reported the vehicle examines the facts.
When are the notifications dispensed with?
The notifications on a new plate and on deregistration are unnecessary if the receiving registration authority transmits its data by direct entry via remote data transmission.
May foreign bodies retrieve data?
Under § 70, data from the Central Vehicle Register may be kept available for foreign bodies to retrieve in the automated procedure. Retrieval uses the number plate or the vehicle identification number.
Under § 67 the technical handling of the automated enquiry procedure follows a standard that the Federal Motor Transport Authority publishes on its website.
What does this mean for dealers?
With a registration in a new district the previous authority learns of it via the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
With Zevra the dealer files the transfer in the dealer portal. Registration costs from 10 € per case, deregistration 2 € net, plus official fees.
