When does the policyholder get proof of their claims? This page sums up § 5c and § 5b of the German Compulsory Insurance Act.

When does the insurer issue the statement?
- at any time within 15 days of receiving a request from the policyholder,
- when the insurance relationship ends.
The duty lies with the insurance company.
What must the statement contain?
| Item | Content |
|---|---|
| Third-party liability claims | number of reported claims that led to a claims reserve that still exists |
| Date | the date of each individual claim |
| Released reserves | reserves released within 3 years without any payment |
The statement follows the template laid down by the European Commission.
How are statements from abroad treated?
When setting premiums, the insurance company treats a statement issued in another state of the European Economic Area exactly like one issued in Germany.
May the insurer differentiate by nationality?
No. Policyholders may not be treated in a discriminatory way because of their nationality or solely because of their former state of residence. A premium surcharge for this reason is not permitted.
When is the insurance confirmation issued?
The insurance company sends the policyholder an insurance confirmation when cover begins.
It can make the sending dependent on payment of the single or first premium.
What does this mean for dealers?
For dealers with customers from abroad, the statement from the country of origin counts just the same.
With Zevra the dealer files registration and deregistration in the dealer portal. Registration costs from 10 € per case, deregistration 2 € net, plus official fees.
