When does a vehicle part get its own operating licence?
The operating licence can be granted separately for parts of vehicles when the part forms a technical unit that can be dealt with independently in the licensing procedure.
What can the licence be limited to?
- vehicles of a certain kind,
- vehicles of a certain type,
- a certain kind of fitting.
If the parts may only be used in this way, the operating licence is limited accordingly.
How does the inspection work?
| Question | Rule |
|---|---|
| Who inspects? | officially recognised expert or examiner for motor vehicle traffic, or a motor vehicle expert |
| What is confirmed? | the proper fitting |
| Which details? | vehicle manufacturer, vehicle type and vehicle identification number |
The confirmation is made on the proof that the driver carries.
What applies to series parts?
The holder of a general operating licence for vehicle parts puts the prescribed type mark on every part. This confirms conformity with the approved type.
In addition, a copy of the operating licence is enclosed with every part made.
What applies to parts without an approved type?
The procedure under § 21 applies to them. The expert report is entered in the vehicle document when the part is to be fitted to a specific vehicle subject to registration.
Under the report the registration authority enters the note “Betriebserlaubnis erteilt”.
What does this mean for dealers?
For dealers, what counts with accessories is whether the type mark and the copy of the licence are there.
With Zevra the dealer files registration and deregistration in the dealer portal. Registration costs from 10 € per case, deregistration 2 € net, plus official fees.
