In the trade in agricultural machinery, trailers and special vehicles the green plate comes up regularly. All details come from the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) and the Motor Vehicle Tax Act (KraftStG).
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

Who gets a green number plate?
For a vehicle whose keeper is exempt from motor vehicle tax, a plate with green lettering on a white background must be assigned. A green plate is also available for trailers if the special rule for trailers under the Motor Vehicle Tax Act is applied for.
Which vehicles are exempt from the tax?
| Example from § 3 Motor Vehicle Tax Act | Condition |
|---|---|
| Tractors and special vehicles in agricultural or forestry businesses | used exclusively there |
| Vehicles in the fire service, disaster control and rescue service | outwardly recognisable as intended for it |
| Vehicles for cleaning roads | used exclusively, outwardly recognisable |
Which vehicles get no green plate despite tax exemption?
- vehicles of authorities
- vehicles of staff of diplomatic and consular missions
- buses and cars with 8 or 9 seats used mainly in scheduled services
- light motorcycles and mopeds
- vehicles of severely disabled persons
- particularly low-emission motor vehicles
- vehicles with an interchangeable plate
Can the green plate be combined?
Yes, with the seasonal plate: green plates can also be assigned as seasonal plates. With an interchangeable plate, however, it is not possible.
Does the green plate work online?
For the internet-based procedure the Vehicle Registration Ordinance names the general plate as well as historic, seasonal and E plates. The green plate is not listed there; the application goes through the registration authority.
What does this mean for the dealership?
Zevra does not handle registrations with green plates. For all standard cases you use the dealer portal.
With Zevra, registration costs from €10, deregistration from €2 per case, net and plus official fees.
