In the caravanning trade, registration is urgent before the season. All details come from the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) and the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO).
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

Does the digital procedure apply to motorhomes and caravans?
Yes. The Vehicle Registration Ordinance defines a vehicle as the motor vehicle and its trailer, and the internet-based registration procedure applies to vehicles. The same security codes, eVB number and SEPA mandate are needed as for a car.
When is the general inspection due?
| Vehicle | first general inspection | afterwards |
|---|---|---|
| Motorhome up to 3.5 t | after 36 months | every 24 months |
| Motorhome over 3.5 t up to 7.5 t | every 24 months in the first 72 months | every 12 months |
| Motorhome over 7.5 t | every 12 months | every 12 months |
| Caravan up to 0.75 t or without its own brake system | after 36 months | every 24 months |
| Caravan over 0.75 t up to 3.5 t | every 24 months | every 24 months |
| Caravan over 3.5 t up to 10 t | every 12 months | every 12 months |
For transfer and re-registration in the digital procedure the general inspection must be valid.
How does a caravan differ from a motorhome?
- The caravan is a trailer and carries only 1 plate – at the rear.
- The motorhome is a motor vehicle and carries 2 plates, front and rear.
- For deregistration the code of the seal is needed for each plate.
Does a seasonal plate fit?
Yes. A seasonal plate is assigned on request for 2 to 11 full months. Outside the operating period the vehicle may neither be used nor parked on public roads – important for the winter pitch.
What does this mean for the dealership?
In the Zevra dealer portal you create motorhomes and caravans like any other case and see the status live. For cases with a seasonal plate, ask us in advance.
Registration costs from €10, deregistration from €2 per case, net and plus official fees.
