Who is responsible for vehicle registration in Berlin?
The Berlin vehicle registration authority (Kfz-Zulassungsbehörde Berlin) is responsible. It works at 2 sites.
- Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg site: Jüterboger Str. 3
- Lichtenberg site: Ferdinand-Schultze-Str. 55
Customers should not come to the sites without a confirmed appointment. The booking must be in the name of the applicant or keeper, otherwise the authority does not process the case.
How does Berlin serve dealers and registration services?
In Berlin, cases are accepted and handed out by appointment at collective counters. The authority distinguishes 2 routes.
- Standing appointment: for commercial customers who come regularly and hand in at least 10 cases.
- Contact form: for commercial customers who do not come regularly or do not regularly reach 10 cases.
- Processing status: the authority publishes the status at the dealer counter. On 9 October 2026 it stated a processing time of 2 working days.
Which ID rule has applied in Berlin since 1 June 2024?
Since 1 June 2024 the authority accepts registration cases submitted through commercial registration services only with the original identity documents of the future keeper. Officially certified copies are permitted. The only exception: copies of the managing director's identity documents in cases for legal entities.
Originals handed in are returned early only in justified individual cases and with proof.
What can be done online in Berlin?
Berlin has offered i-Kfz stage 4 and the bulk customer interface in full since 2 November 2023. The table shows the status according to the authority.
