After marriage, divorce or a company renaming, the name in the vehicle documents is no longer correct. All details come from the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) and the fee schedule for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
Zevra is the B2B platform for digital vehicle registration for car dealers, registration services and fleets: cases are entered in the dealer portal and filed nationwide by power of attorney with qualified electronic signature – from €10 per registration, no base fee, no minimum volume.

What must the keeper report?
Changes to the keeper's details must be reported to the competent registration authority without delay so that the vehicle register and the registration certificate are changed. The report can also be made through a residents' registration office, provided such a procedure is available there.
Change of name, change of address or change of keeper?
| Case | Documents | Plate |
|---|---|---|
| Change of name | part I and part II | stays |
| Change of address only | part I only | stays or new, depending on the district |
| Change of keeper | part I and part II, proof of insurance | stays or new |
The Federal Motor Transport Authority does not count moves and name changes as a change of ownership.
What does the change cost?
- changing the vehicle documents because of a change in personal data: 10.20 euros
- plus 0.90 euros if a registration certificate part I is issued
What happens if the change is not reported?
If the keeper does not comply with the duty to report, the registration authority may prohibit use of the vehicle on public roads until it is met.
Can the change of name be done online?
For the internet-based change the Vehicle Registration Ordinance names the change of residence or registered office and the change of keeper. The pure change of name is not listed there; it goes through the registration authority.
What does this mean for the dealership?
Zevra does not handle the pure change of name. If a sale follows, the transfer to the buyer works digitally.
With Zevra, registration costs from €10, deregistration from €2 per case, net and plus official fees.
